Raft ‘N Rivers (P) Ltd. is a Kathmandu based outfitter that specializes in the highest quality rafting adventures on the rivers of the Himalayas. We began commercial rafting in Nepal in December 1991, when we decided to start a company and simply name it after the inflatable rubber boats we use and where we love to use them, the river. Whether you are a first time novice or an experienced thrill-seeker who has rafted all over the world, we will ensure this trip is the greatest adventure of your life.
We specialize in organizing individual and group trips for rafting, kayaking and Hydro Speeding. Unlike other companies who outsource a lot of their work we keep all of our trips in our small tightly knit family. We are proud to offer the highest quality trips that put your needs and satisfaction first while maintaining our 100% safety record.
Kumar Gurgung, the director of Raft ‘N Rivers, spent much of his young adult life working for some of the bigger adventure travel agencies in Nepal. Finally after years of working with these bigger outfitters, who cared more about the money than the trip experiences they were giving people, Kumar became frustrated and decided to start own agency that would concentrate not on the money but on the people.
The result was Raft ‘N Rivers (P) Ltd, a small intimate company that cares about its guests and their experiences. Our goal is to provide you with the best. To make your adventure as safe and pleasurable as possible, we use only the most technically advanced equipment including; self bailing rafts, routinely checked first aid equipment, durable international paddles, the highest quality PFD’s (life jackets), protective helmets, the best camping gear, and more. Our local guides are well experienced and certified in First Aid and CPR, swift water rescue, as well as knowledgeable about the history, people and natural environment in the Kingdom of Nepal. All of our guides go through intense training, and are committed to giving our guests the safe, pleasurable outdoor experiences.
Because Raft ‘N Rivers (P) Ltd. is a small company, we custom design your trip specific to your holiday plans and can provide you with the intimate services you deserve. We pride ourselves on preparing hot, fresh meals for all of our full-day and multi-day trips. This does cost us more, but at Raft ‘N Rivers (P) Ltd. we believe food is no place to cut costs. It is important to us that every one of our guests goes home with a lasting memory of their stay with us.
So come along and feel the power of Nepal; explore the beauty of the Himalayan whitewater river expeditions and live the adventure that is part of the Kingdom of Nepal.

OUR COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL:
- Giving utmost care and respect to nature and the environment that we tread in.
- We use propane burning stoves for all of our cooking and only burn driftwood that we collect along the river bank at night to try and fight Nepal’s deforestation problem.
- We practice leave no trace ethics along the rivers we run
- We only camp on sand banks that are below the high water line so our small impact will be washed away in the next monsoon season.
- The hotel that is run by us does not use a generator, but has a battery back up and solar panels to try and reduce the pollution problem in the city of Kathmandu.
In addition to caring for the environment we also care about the native people of Nepal. In a country where the average income is about $167 US a year most of the small villages around the country cannot provide even a base education for their children; let alone healthcare or often clean water. Because of the generous gratitude given from our clients we are able to be involved in numerous social service activities that aid the rural communities of Nepal. We at Raft ‘n Rivers are currently involved in helping the people of Hile Kharka village; where Kumar was born and spent his childhood. Our upcoming plans include providing scholarships to low-income families and their children. These scholarships will help with disables, provide health care, water supply, children and adult education, etc. This is the concept we are hoping to expand to other parts of rural Nepal as well. For this purpose, we have established a Development Fund by donating 1% of our profits to this cause. We welcome any and all contributions for this cause. There is no donation too small.
Kumar GURUNG – grew up in Deurali-4 Tanahun District and currently lives in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, with his family. He is a longtime Trekking guide, and still occasionally enjoys leading trekking groups in Tibet, Ladakh, Sikkim and Nepal as a professional guide when he can get away from the office Kumar spends much of his “free time” hiking around Kathmandu or answering to needs of his clients.
We are a proud member of the following organizations: NTB (Nepal tourism board) & the N.A.R.A. (Nepal Association of Rafting Agents). We abide by there codes of ethics, professionalism, and safety. All tours are operated on public lands under special permit from the Nepal Government of Nepal and Minister of tourism management.
